What is Crab Island ?
Crab Island is the greatest Sandbar in the World ! (in our humble opinion) And something we believe everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Crab Island is the most popular attraction in Destin & it’s fame is growing at a rapid pace. At one point, it actually was an island, until 1975 when a hurricane knocked the top off & left us with the sandbar we know & love today. In most places on Crab Island, the depth of the water is about 1-4 ft. It’s the perfect place to anchor your boat and have a good time out in the sun!
Are there Vendors at Crab Island?
Yes ! One of the things that makes Crab Island so unique is the array of awesome vendors anchored there. Food, Drinks, Ice Cream, Souvenir’s (hats & t-shirts) are for sale. Paddle boards & floats are available for rent at The General Store, which is always anchored in the center of Crab Island.
ALCOHOL IS NOT SOLD AT CRAB ISLAND!
Is there shade on the boat?
Yes! WAM’s boats are equipped with front & back Bimini’s (boat covers) that can provide shade along the entire boat :) we still suggest bringing sunscreen.
Will we have access to a restroom?
WAM’s pontoon boat do not have flushable toilets on board. Most guests are able to go number one in the water. However our Captain’s are knowledgeable of all the nearby restrooms, that can be pulled up to at anytime in a matter of minutes if needed & requested by anyone in your group.
Can we go into the Gulf of Mexico ?
This all depends on the weather! If the Captain deems that the weather is safe to head into The Gulf, then we are happy to do so. On a weather day that’s not ideal for The Gulf, There’s plenty to see and enjoy in the bay.
Will we see dolphins?
The Destins waters are known for the amazing dolphins that live there. They are extremely social creatures & are frequently seen. So while we can’t make any guarantees, our captains know where to find them & you are very likely to see & experience them for yourself.
Do I Need a Boaters License ?
No. WAM’s boats are driven by Coast Guard Certified Licensed Captain’s.
